2005 Form 1099R's and Form 1042S's

January 1, 2006 01:00 AM

If you’re a new retiree, you may be unfamiliar with Form 1099R. Tax season is always stressful, and the arrival of new forms to complete with unfamiliar language can “tax” you even more as you complete your taxes. The following Questions and Answers will help you learn more about the importance of Form 1099R.

What is a Form 1099R?
A Form 1099R reports how much money was distributed to you from your retirement plan. The amount shown in box 2 is what you report as taxable income. If you have any questions about how much to report as income, please contact us.

What is the difference between a Form 1099R and a Form W-2?
Form 1099R reports how much you received from a retirement fund, while Form W-2 reports how much you received in wages from an employer.

Why haven’t I received my Form 1099R?
Please keep in mind that only NEAP retirees who received benefits from NEAP during 2005 receive Forms 1099R. NEAP participants who have not retired and are still working do not receive Forms 1099R.

We thank you for your patience. All NEAP Forms 1099R will be mailed and postmarked by January 31. If you do not receive your Form 1099R in the two weeks following this date, please contact us directly.
